Who is Lendable?

Lendable Ltd is the trusted and responsible provider of the thimbl Credit Builder Credit Card.

Can I be pre-approved for a thimbl credit card?

This will be carried out via Open Banking, which is a safe and secure procedure. Open Banking enables an authorised third party, such as a provider, to view your recent transaction history through your online bank account. Only you can decide who has access to your account, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.

Please be aware that some banks do not currently support Open Banking. You can check to see whether your bank supports Open Banking here. If your bank does not appear on the list, you will not be able to undergo the checks required to activate your virtual thimbl credit card at this stage.

Can I add my thimbl credit card to my mobile wallet?

Yes; your thimbl credit card can be added to either Apple Pay or Google Pay.

What is a soft search?

A soft search provides brokers and lenders with an insight into your financial history and can be used to determine how likely you are to be approved for a credit product or service, without impacting your credit score. A soft search is only visible on your credit file to you, and the company who carried out the check.

What is a hard search?

A hard search allows lenders to access an in-depth view of your credit history, and will remain on your credit file for up to 12 months. Multiple hard searches on your credit file within a short period of time could damage your credit score.

A hard search will usually be carried out by lenders as part of their affordability checks when deciding whether to lend you the money that you've applied to borrow.

Do I need a good credit score to be eligible for a thimbl credit card?

The thimbl Credit Builder Credit Card could be considered a suitable credit card for people hoping to work towards a healthier credit position.

To check your eligibility, you'll need to already have at least one active credit account that's been open for at least 12 months.

What is Section 75 consumer protection law?

In the event that something goes wrong, Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 could protect consumers who make a credit card transaction to pay for goods and services between the value of £100 and £30,000. You can find out more about Section 75 here.

What is the annual percentage rate (APR)?

The APR refers to the estimated annual cost of borrowing, and includes the interest rate and any standard fees associated with the credit card. Please note that additional fees and charges, such as late repayment fees and cash advance fees, are not included in the APR.

What is a representative APR?

At least 51% of eligible customers will be offered the advertised representative APR or lower, but not everyone will have the same rate.

The thimbl Credit Builder Credit Card has a representative 48.9% APR.

Can I increase my credit limit?

Once you have had your credit card for a minimum of three months, Lendable will assess your individual credit account on a monthly basis to determine whether you could be eligible for a credit limit increase. The maximum increase you could be eligible for is £4,000.

You cannot request a credit limit increase yourself.

Can I use my thimbl credit card abroad?

Subject to certain restrictions, you can use your thimbl credit card abroad, with no additional fees for usage.

If you're travelling abroad, we suggest bringing a second payment method as a backup. While our provider updates this list regularly, please note that their rules are reviewed regularly, so some information may become outdated.

Can I withdraw money from an ATM using my thimbl credit card?

You can use your thimbl credit card to withdraw money from a cash machine, although you should think very carefully before doing so.

Using a credit card to withdraw money from a cash machine is known as a cash advance. You may be charged a cash advance fee for the transaction. Lenders could also consider the process to be a sign of poor money management, which could impact your chances of approval should you need to make an application for credit in the future.

I'm a student; am I eligible for a thimbl credit card?

You can check your eligibility for a thimbl Credit Card if you:

Are between the ages of 18 and 70;
Are a UK resident with at least 1 year's UK address history;
Have a monthly net income of at least £800;
Have an active credit account that has been open for a minimum of 12 months; and

I receive benefits; am I eligible for a thimbl credit card?

You could be eligible for a thimbl credit card if you're employed and in receipt of benefits that make up part of your income, although this will be subject to an affordability check, which, if you choose to make a full application, will take place directly with Lendable.

Applications from those who are currently unemployed cannot be considered for a thimbl credit card.

I am struggling with my repayments and need help with my finances; what can I do?

If you're struggling to repay your credit card, you should contact your credit card provider as soon as you can through the 'get in touch' section of the app from Monday to Friday, between the hours of 9am and 6pm.

How do I know whether I'll be accepted?

thimbl's free eligibility check will reveal your chances of approval in just 60 seconds, with no impact to your credit score. Pre-approval does not guarantee acceptance. If you make a full application directly with our provider, Lendable Ltd, a hard search will be carried out. Please be aware that a hard search will remain on your credit file for up to 12 months, and multiple hard searches within a short period of time could have a negative effect on your credit score.

How can I check my credit score?

You can check your credit score through one of the three major CRAs in the UK: Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion.

While TransUnion is free to use, please note that Equifax will charge a monthly membership fee of £14.95 after a 30-day free trial period. Experian users can access their credit score for free on a monthly basis, although additional features, including in-depth insights into your credit report, will come at a monthly cost of £14.99.

What is the relationship between thimbl, Zable, and Lendable?

How is a credit builder different from other credit cards?

A credit builder credit card will usually come with a more manageable starting credit limit than one that may typically be seen on a 'standard' credit card. The general aim of a credit builder credit card is to use it to make small, necessary, manageable purchases, which are then repaid each month. Your spending and repayment history will be reported to the credit reference agencies (CRAs) and, providing that you have effectively managed any other credit commitments, you could see an improvement in your score over time.

How long will it take to improve my credit score?

Improving your credit score can take time, but it's a journey worth starting. The amount of time that it takes to improve your credit score will depend on your own personal financial situation.

When looking to improve your credit score, you should focus on the whole picture. A credit builder credit card could work most effectively when used alongside other credit building methods, such as registering to vote, ensuring any credit commitments are paid on time, and reporting any inaccurate information on your credit file.
